Sea Freight vs. Air Freight: Choosing the Right Shipping Method
4 min read
Sea is cheaper but slower. Air is faster but pricier. Here's how to choose based on what you're importing.
Sea freight is the workhorse of importing from China to Nigeria. It's cost-effective for bulky or heavy goods — vehicles, machinery, solar panels, large quantities of stock. Transit to Lagos is roughly 30–50 days depending on the shipping schedule.
Air freight is for when speed matters more than cost. It's ideal for small, light, high-value items like electronics and gadgets — delivered in about 7–14 days. You pay more per kilogram, but you get your goods fast.
The right choice depends on the product and your timeline. A reseller restocking tablets needs air. A fleet operator ordering trucks needs sea. For mixed orders, we can split shipments — air for the urgent items, sea for the rest.
We'll recommend the best method for your specific order and quote it as a separate line so you can see the trade-off clearly.
